Les Partitions
Music score collection, coloured plinth/ 2023

The narrative of this piece is constructed from 31 sheet music covers, revealing the cultural manufacturing framework of the imperial colonial economic system through the music produced between 1850 and 1950. This narrative also sheds light on the construction process of the concept of "the Other" within colonialism.
The arrangement of sheet music is akin to the editing of a film, unfolding from expositions and celebrations under the imperial colonial economic system, 19th-century industrial manufacturing and workers' resistance, experiences in foreign lands during colonial military expansion, the supply and demand of economic crops, human trafficking and trade, to the manufacture of stereotypes about civilization, barbarism, and culture.
